 Данный альбом от своего предшественника отделяет долгих восемь лет. Единственный постоянный участник группы, вокалист Энди Мюк, и гитарист Мартин Винклер написали песню «Dance With the Witches», после чего решено было реорганизовать группу и выпустить альбом с таким же названием. То, что это уже не концептуальный, более жесткий, быстрый, не столь сложный, мрачный материал, свидетельствует о том, что группа вернулась к своему раннему стилю. Мало того, этот стиль настолько схож со старыми работами группы и настолько узнаваем, что вопрос, вытекающий из возможных выводов, крепко удивляет: неужто Энди Мюк играл такую роль в создании музыки раньше? Или же это просто свидетельство большого мастерства — воссоздать старый Stormwitch почти полностью без старых участников?
«Dance With the Witches» развивает некоторые, но не все идеи «The Beaty and the Beast» — возросла роль хоровых партий, не менее значима роль клавишных и других инструментов, разнообразие в тематике. Одно из новшеств — вкрапления фолка. Отсутствующий женский бэк-вокал (так прекрасно сочетающийся с музыкой группы) лишь напоминает о себе в песне «Jeanne D'Arc», где женский голос выходит на передний план. В целом же данный альбом самый быстрый и тяжелый по звучанию, местами неотличим от пауэра. Удивляет, с каким пониманием Энди Мюк подходит к сочинению композиций, потому что на протяжении всего периода после «Eye of the Storm» у группы нет откровенно слабых песен, а на данном альбоме даже намеков на таковые не имеется. На альбоме присутствуют два безоговорочных хита — это «Dance With the Witches», которая лучше всего и демонстрирует мастерски реконструированный оригинальный стиль, и «Jeanne D'Arc», в которой помимо женского голоса можно услышать колокола, что звучит потрясающе. Нельзя также не отметить веселую «The Devil's Bride», классические "стормвитчевские" ужастики «The House Of Usher» и «The King Of Terrors» и прощальную «Together». Данный альбом — удивительный пример того, как один человек способен сохранять музыкальные традиции группы и умеет мастерски их воспроизводить. Однозначно один из лучших альбомов группы! |
