 Второй альбом Abattoir записали с новым вокалистом Майклом Тауэрсом из Heretic (к слову, из этой группы "родом" небезызвестный Майк Хоу, на рубеже 80-х/90-х певший в Metal Church). В отличии от предыдущего певца - Стива Гейнса, Тауэрс поет более мелодично, местами немного напоминая то Брюса Дикинсона, то Джоуи Беладонну.
Музыка на "The Only Safe Place" тоже претерпела некоторые изменения: влияние Motorhead почти исчезло, стало больше мелодий. В тоже время, звучание стало более жестким, рубленым таким, что ли... Ощутимо выросло и качество записи.
Стилистику работы можно охарактеризовать, как микс из thrash-, heavy- и speed-metal с преобладанием последнего. Хотя, повторюсь, на предыдущей и рецензируемой пластинках представлены два разных вида спида...
После выхода "The Only Safe Place" Abattoir съездили в турне с Megadeth, а потом в группе обострились внутренние противоречия. В результате альбом 1986-го года стал последним студийным в истории коллектива. Попытка Марка Каро осенью 1987-го возродить "Скотобойню" не удалась, несмотря на неплохое демо, записанное тогда же.
Только на рубеже столетий музыканты снова собрались, ограничившись, к сожалению, лишь концертником 2001 года "No Sleep 'Til Kalamazoo". |
